Centro Vasco Argentino 'Gure Etxea'

The Centro Vasco Argentino Gure Etxea of Tandil grew out of a Basque festival held in the city in March 1940. Its institutional life began on 24 November 1949, with Gumersindo Berra as president, and in its first decade it came to have more than 600 members. In the early years of the FEVA it was one of the centres that undertook to teach Basque. It had its best period until the mid-sixties; after that it declined, and in 1972 a new group of members got it back on its feet. The Basque Government has recognised it since 6 June 1995, and its register credits it with 323 members.
