NABO - North American Basque Organization, Inc.

NABO (North American Basque Organizations) is the federation that has brought together the Basque clubs of the United States since 1973. In March of that year their representatives met in Sparks (Nevada) and agreed to create it, and in August the first convention was held in Reno; it was legally incorporated in Nevada. It was named North American Basque Organizations “rather than the Western States Basque Organizations, Inc. which had been adopted previously”, to leave the door open to clubs from other regions, and its bylaws forbid it to promote any ideology or political cause. It started with eight clubs; there were eighteen in 1979 and thirty-six in 2007. It organises mus and pelota tournaments and a summer camp for young people that has been called Udaleku since 2001, and its archive is kept at the Jon Bilbao Basque Library of the University of Nevada, Reno.
