New Mexico Euskal Etxea / Basque Club of New Mexico

The New Mexico Euskal Etxea was founded in 2005 in Santa Fe and brings together the Basques of New Mexico. The Basque imprint on the city is much older: Santa Fe was founded in 1598 by Juan de Oñate, son of Cristóbal de Oñate, from Gipuzkoa, and first governor of New Mexico. Every year the club takes part in the National Basque Festival in Elko and organises food and cultural gatherings for the Basques of the state. The Basque Government recognised it in 2009.
