Gure Etxea Colonia

Gure Etxea Colonia, in Rosario (Colonia), is one of the Basque centres that descendants of Basques opened in the interior of Uruguay in the nineties. It was founded in 1992, the same year as the one in Salto, and it was not the first attempt in the area: at the end of the nineteenth century there had already been an attempt to form an association, which never became established. It has its premises in a building of its own, bought with support from the Basque Government, which has recognised it since 2 April 1996; the register credits it with 153 members.
