Andorra

Andorra is a stone’s throw from Euskal Herria, in the same mountain range, but no source has been found that documents Basque emigration to the principality. What there was, though, is a short-lived Basque centre, born at the beginning of this century, officially recognised in 2003 and now inactive. In other countries the centre came after the community; here there was a centre, but there is no record of any community to keep it going.

It was called Euskal Etxea d’Andorra and it was based in Santa Coloma, in the parish of Andorra la Vella. The Basque Government’s official register gives it as founded in 2001 and recognised on 17 June 2003.¹⁵ The report of the Directorate for Relations with Basque Communities counts it among the centres set up in those years, with the date 2002.²

What remains of its activity is above all the Basque week it held every December (see the Basque community today).⁴ Today euskalkultura.eus lists the centre as inactive, and it no longer appears on the Basque Government’s official list.³¹
