El Salvador

The country’s Basque centre is an association of 33 members, according to the official register of the Basque Government, which recognised it on 26 September 1995.¹ It had been founded seven years earlier, in 1988.² It has its premises in Santa Tecla, in the metropolitan area of San Salvador, and it is called Centro Vasco de El Salvador Euskal Etxea, although it is also known as Euskal Etxea de El Salvador or Casa Vasca de San Salvador.²

The best documented of its activities dates from October 2012. Before the elections to the Basque Parliament on 21 October, the centre organised a videoconference with representatives of the Basque parties. Iñaki Goikoetxea, of the EAJ-PNV, and Jon Etxabe, of EH Bildu, took part; the representative of the PSE had accepted the invitation but was unable to attend at the last minute. According to the euskalkultura.eus report, the two participants congratulated the Basque centre “for being pioneers and the only euskal etxea in the whole world that had put forward an activity like this”.³
