Fundación Vasco Argentina Juan de Garay

The Fundación Vasco Argentina Juan de Garay, born in Buenos Aires in 1983, bears the name of the man of Basque origin who refounded the city in 1580. It organises events together with the other Basque institutions of Buenos Aires, such as the Laurak Bat, Euskaltzaleak, Eusko Kultur Etxea and the Centro Vasco Francés. For the bicentenary of the Recoleta cemetery it published in 2023 “Los vascos en la Recoleta. Guía de sus bóvedas”, by Jorge Beramendi: ninety-six pages for touring the Basque vaults alone, with 79 Basque figures or figures of Basque origin and six direct descendants of Garay. The Basque Government has recognised it since 11 June 1996, with 250 members in its register.
