Centro Vasco Francés

The Centro Vasco Francés was founded in Buenos Aires on 1 April 1895 to welcome the Basques arriving from Iparralde, the French Basque Country. Iparraldeko Euskal Etxea, as it is also called, bought its premises on Calle Moreno in 1899 and in 1901 opened its social and sports headquarters there, the century-old building it still uses today. Historians read its appearance, together with that of the Laurak Bat and the Centro Navarro, as a sign that the community was splitting along regional lines, and some responded at the time by founding houses that would bring it together, such as the Euskal Echea. In 2025 it celebrated its 130th anniversary. The Basque Government has recognised it since 16 April 2002, with 162 members in its register.
