Federación de Entidades Vasco Argentinas - F.E.V.A.

The FEVA brings together a large share of the Basque centres in Argentina and is the largest structure of the Basque community outside Euskal Herria. The Federación de Entidades Vasco Argentinas was constituted on 7 January 1955 in Mar del Plata, in the middle of the Semana Vasca (Basque Week), at the end of a process that went back to the 1940s, and it was founded by 22 organisations (23 according to the record of the 1968 extraordinary general meeting cited by the Auñamendi). Since then, six centres considered “large or traditional” have had a guaranteed seat on its Board of Directors: Laurak Bat of Buenos Aires, Euzko Etxea of La Plata, Unión Vasca of Bahía Blanca, Euzko Etxea of Necochea, Zazpirak Bat of Rosario and Denak Bat of Mar del Plata. A year after it was born it was a founding member, at the Congreso Mundial Vasco (World Basque Congress) in Paris, of the Confederación de Entidades Vascas en América, and in its early years it asked its member centres to give Basque classes. In 2007 it grouped 95 Basque centres with 18,000 members, and since 2024 it has been chaired by Carlos Miguelena.
